The Storm : for harpsichord & soundtrack / JacobTV - Jacob Ter Veldhuis
Other authors:
Veldhuis, Jacob ter
(Composer)
Description:
The Storm, for harpsichord and soundtrack was written November 1995 for Thora Johansen and Annelie de Man. The pieces is based on audio recordings I made while surviving the ‘Storm of the Century, staying for 2 months in the beach house of Robert Pollock on Long Beach Island, NJ in the winter of 1993.
Strong winds, heavy snowfalls, serious flooding and evacuations. Manhattan at the time was completely snowed in.... American friends were concerned and offered shelter.
Some of their messages were recorded on Roberts' answering machine, which produced a variety of mechanical sounds when rewinding. Also audio from recorded radio and tv-stations.
The Storm is JacobTV’s very first piece based on speech grooves.
Voices: Marilyn Monroe, Billy Graham, our friends Hak Vogrin, Bob Koenig andTom Laughlin, a couple of weathermen and -women, Misses Jones and others. The Storm was recorded on CD by Thora: Van grote en kleine vogels - Jacob Ter Veldhuis BVHaast CD9606
