Commissioned by Fonds voor de Scheppende Toonkunst en het Safri Duo. In 1999, choreographer Hans van Manen created a ballet on the first two movements of the concerto.

Description:
Both 'Goldrush' and 'Goldrush Concerto' were inspired by the rush for gold which led to so many catastrophies in the history of mankind.
'Goldrush' ends where 'Goldrush Concerto' begins: with the discovery of pure gold. But this 'el dorado' is soon to be ransacked, leading to desperate expeditions for more gold. Gold is also to be understood here as a metaphor for 'happiness' or 'bliss'. 
The concerto includes audio samples taken from the 1948 movie 'Treasure of the Sierra Madre’ featuring Humphrey Bogart. One gold digger get killed, while his mates lose their treasures by the wind blowing all their gold dust away, back to the mountains, where it came from.

Percussion 1: crotales, vibes, Tai gongs (via midi pads), chimes, timpani & roto toms, bass drum, snare drum, bongos, various (crash) cymbals & toms, large Chinese going or tamtam & small percussion.

Percussion 2: chimes, glockenspiel, marimba, speech samples (via midi pads), timpani & roto toms, hi-hat, various (crash) cymbals & toms, timbales, large Chinese going or tamtam & small percussion.

Tai gongs (Perc.1) as well as the speech grooves (Perc.2) are reproduced by a sampler, triggered via midi pads. The software sampler is part of a Logic Pro X project. These files should be ordered along with the score & parts in one package.
Apple computer, monitors for percussionists and PA is obligatory.
