(Composer)
Description:
Program note (English): (First performance: October 2003 - Yokohama, Japan - Tatiana Koleva and Johan Faber with the Xenakis Ensemble). Percussionists from West Africa and Dutch drummer Han Bennink provided the inspiration. There are two soloists: two of each kind of percussion instrument (metals, woods, high and low membranes, etc.), two times or four players in each section of the orchestra (woodwinds, brass, strings), a two-part form, two contrasting evolutions in pitch (the orchestra generally low to high, the soloists high to low) ... hence the title, 'Two'. - LORRE LYNN TRYTTEN
