Description:
This album of music from Willem Mengelberg (1871-1951) contains almost all the songs that he composed. Except for the last song, the Chasa Glockenliedchen from 1941, they have all been written before 1900. They date from the time of Mengelberg’s studies in Cologne (1888-1892), from the years that he worked in Lucerne (1892-1895), and from his early period in Amsterdam (from 1895).
Only the song Nelken, has been published before, most likely as a musical attachment in a magazine. The manuscripts of the songs are presently in the archive of Willem Mengelberg, which is part of the collection of the Netherlands Music Institute/The Hague City Archive.
This publication has been made possible in cooperation with and support from the Willem Mengelberg Stiftung (Switzerland).
