Description:
Program note (English): 'Sonneries' are certain musical formulas, indicators, performed by the brass instruments, drums and church bells. The 'Sonneries' are officially associated with the events during the reign of French royalty. In my 'Air et Sonneries' each 'sonnerie' has a specific musical formula as a basis. There are three Sonneries and one 'air', which proceed from one to the next. The air is perceived moreover - in several ways - here and there in the Sonneries, so that a confrontation of several musical ideas arises. For those who have the need, here below is an overview. Sonnerie I: scherzando, mainly a dialogue between strings con sordino and percussion (bongo's). Air: a slow phrase, in which the trumpet con sordino plays an important role. Sonnerie II: one long crescendo in a static field of sound. Sonnerie III: a short processing of the preceding of a fanfare. An epilogue of some pianissimo-measures concludes this work. - ROBERT HEPPENER
