Syracuse Blues : for trombone solo, string quartet and soundtrack / JacobTV - Jacob Ter Veldhuis

Description:
September 2008 I visited Sicily. On the fishing market of Syracuse I recorded a couple of stallholders selling fish, in a melancholic way, singing with glissandi, like sirenes. The melodies of their speech became the leitmotif for the composition. Sicilian fishermen probably advertised their fish like this for thousands of years. But what are they actually saying? Oscar Pizzo, a Sicilian friend, explained that it’s a mixture of Sicilian dialect, mixed with old Greek and Arab words. I regard Syracuse Blues also as a lament. The world’s seas and oceans are poisoned and overfished.
