Description:
In the mid nineties, I discovered a recording of an old man who met the French poet Guillaume Apollinaire when he was a little boy, during the First World War. Apollinaire sang a military tune, it went like: ‘tatatata’ according to the old man. I was moved by indirect little audio sample from the past. I was just experimenting with my new Akai sampler, a CD3000. I expanded and compressed the sound fragment by means of a new technique at the time, called time stretching. I could easily manipulate that little sound byte and result appeared to contain unexpected musical qualities, blending very well with the sound of the cello.

During the apotheosis, Apollinaire himself, reproduced by a creaking old phonograph, recites one of his famous lines: ‘vienne la nuit, sonne l’heure’.
