Subgenre: Saxophone with multimedia

Remarks: Composed between 2007 and 2008 with financial support from the Dutch Performing Arts Fund. It is the continuing story of Grab it!, written in 1999. Both compositions are based on footage from the same source: life behind bars. In 2009 a short version of TAKE A WILD GUESS was added, in an attempt to make this harsh music a bit more digestible, for which Jan Boiten made a concert video.

Description:
Originally, the composition was written for the American string quartet Ethel, who premiered it at the Tribeca New Music Festival, on a speech groove concert featuring composers Scott Johnson, Steve Reich and JacobTV at the Flea Theater in New York City, May 7 2008 after which the Wall Street Journal wrote: ‘JacobTV’s new work makes many a hip-hop artist look sedate’. Ethel’s Viola player Ralph Farris said that the music almost made him vomit. It was meant as a compliment.
