Remarks: Music may be abstract by nature, but it can represent thoughts and ideas. Nowadays, the most obvious and natural certainties of yesteryear are gone. The catastrophic consequences of global warming seem to become reality. Glaciers, like those in Greenland, are over 100.000 years old and are melting at increasing speed. The first movement of Glacier is a lament that was indirectly inspired by recent meteorological and geological information. Music has the power of consolation, which is hopefully expressed by the second and third movement. Composed for and dedicated to Quirine Viersen, with financial support from the Dutch Cello Biennial and the Amsterdam Art Fund.
