Program note (English): This piece was composed for the horn player Julia M. Studebaker, on the occasion of the birth of her daughter, Madeleine Diana.
Diana was the Roman goddess of the hunting; the French horn is "the" instrument of hunting.
The composition starts with an evocation of hunting motifs; in the bars 13-14 a bridge was made between past and present. This chromatic motif ends in a twelve tone-melody with three variations. The hunting motifs starts again, but as in a dream. - MARIUS FLOTHUIS
