composition
Stretto : for flute, clarinet, guitar and violoncello, 1998 / Hanna Kulenty
Description:
Program note (English): (Premiere: September 21, 1999 - Music Academy Warsawa - Mikael Helasvuo, Kari Kriikku, Jukka Savijoki and Anssi Karttunen).
As the title suggests Stretto, this composition is written on the basis of 'tightening' a certain melodic theme, which on the basis of a fugato appears in different instruments according to the scale model, E - F sharp - F - G - G sharp - B flat - A - B - B flat - C - B - C sharp - D - E - E flat - F - F sharp etc. The tightening is so 'effective' that only the first sounds of the themes remain, giving the 'clean' scales (models), which in quick unison progress weave in and out of one another in different keys up to a culmination. - HANNA KULENTY
