Description:
Program note (English): This work was written as an overture to my 3 Songs for soprano and orchestra (1991) and was both dedicated to and premiered by the New Stroud Orchestra whose conductor I was at the time. It does in no way try to imitate volcanic action or volcanic matter. The allusion to volcanoes is more an act of recognition of the fact that we, and therefore all our actions and creations, are ultimately the product of volcanic action. The music is simply a "growth", a passing glimpse of life, risen surreptitiously out of its fertile deposits. - JAN VRIEND
