Description:
Program note (English): (Premiere: 26-11-1980 - London - Capricorn Ensemble, cond. Anthony Pay (BBC)). The Nonet, completed in November 1980, consist of two parts.
The first part has a strict rhythmic organisation, which binds together heterogeneous elements such as tone clusters, percussive sounds and diatonic material. Apart from the elaboration in details, this first part is structured as a sort of palindrome: from end to beginning being the same as from beginning to end.
In contrast, the second part is determined by the aspect of pitch. A 35-tone series is continuously being repeated, but in a very free rhythm: tones from this series can be held on for anything between a split second and dozens of bars. - THEO LOEVENDIE
