Undercurrent 暗湧 : for clarinet and piano / Man-Ching Yu Donald

Author(s):
Yu, Donald (Composer)
Description:
In psychology, an undercurrent refers to an underlying mood or emotion that is subtle and not easily perceived. Similarly, in nature, it is a common phenomenon: in water, an undercurrent represents a hidden force beneath the surface current, often imperceptible yet powerful and potentially dangerous. Throughout this piece, subtle variations in dynamics, textures, and densities evoke the essence of an undercurrent. Sparse musical densities and calm, quiet states symbolize its concealed nature, while sudden dynamic shifts and dramatic gestures reflect its latent, potent energy waiting to emerge.
