This composition is inspired by the ancient Chinese poem "Fishing in Snow," written by Liu Zongyuan during the Tang Dynasty. The music opens with quiet and subtle pianistic gestures, soon joined by the trumpet, which softly introduces a prominent thematic material. This theme is juxtaposed with the piano, incorporating various oriental colors and pentatonic elements, along with delicate chromatic fragments that evoke the serene winter landscape depicted in the poem. As the piece progresses, it builds to a climactic moment where the trumpet and piano explore extreme register effects, conjuring the image of heavy snowflakes descending from the sky, while a straw-cloaked fisherman stands by a snow-covered river. In the final moments, the prominent thematic material returns, gradually fading into silence.
