Circle of Life : for viola and piano / Man-Ching Yu Donald
Description:
Inspired by the contemporary artwork “Circle of Life” (Shoshana Lock), the piece is characterized by the incessant flow of particular gestures in association with changes of subtleties in terms of various musical parameters with substantial tone colors, symbolizing the circling motion of coloration in the artwork – “natures color the circle of life” as the artist describes her work. The piece is cast into three prominent sections in which the first and the third tend to be more dramatic with propulsions whereas the central part contrasts by initiating with minimal motions, however, the music materials gradually become active and dynamic while merging organically with the last section.
