12 Preludes : for organ / Man-Ching Yu Donald
Description:
The piece is originally commissioned by American organist Carson Cooman. The set of preludes consist of 12 movements. The titles are Introduction, 1st Chorale, Elegy, Hymn, Fantasy, 1st Intermezzo, 2nd Intermezzo, Pastorale, Arioso, Toccata, 2nd Chorale, Finale: Etude. Each movement has its own tonality, starting from C to B. The first movement has a tonality in C, the second movement is in D-flat and so forth. This idea resembles J.S. Bach’s “equal temperament.” However, the tonality of each piece is established through non-traditional means including “neo-tonality.” The key centre is established by means of pedal point and centric pitch.
