Spiral : for flute / Man-Ching Donald Yu
Description:
Spiral is a concept in which a curve winds around a fixed center point at a continuously increasing or decreasing distance from the point. Yet, in mathematics, there are different sorts of spirals that can generate interesting forms and shapes on two-dimensional plan. In nature, spiral also takes place in different life forms and that more often those manifest coherent geometric properties. The music describes the various forms of spirals in which each has its own unique characters. The whole piece is cast into three parts, the first and the third shares substantial similarities in terms of textures and rhythmic identities; however, the gestures and materials of the central section reflects substantial contrasts and that some extended techniques are employed for generating special sounds.
