Crumbs : Twelve miniatures for junior string quartet / Rieteke Hölscher
Description:
'Crumbs' is an introduction to contemporary music practice, and also an exercise for those who are really eager to learn to play in a string quartet or want to dive into modern and more abstract music styles. In twelve short pieces – with fantasy-stimulating names such as 'Rocking Chair' and 'Bouncing Balls' – most instrumental techniques are intentionally kept simple.
In the first pieces open strings and pizzicato's are widely used, although the use of the fingers of the left hand is gradually expanded.
Many musically challenging elements come along, such as unusual and changing time signatures, and the alternation of various (contemporary) techniques (extended techniques). The series will therefore also be interesting for the (slightly) advanced players; more is required than just the technical control of the instrument.
