composition
Nocturnal Fantasia : for violin and piano / Nimrod Borenstein
Description:
Nocturnal Fantasia was written in 2000 and premiered by Pierre Bensaid (violin) & Robert Markham (piano) at the Borenstein Music Festival in 2002. The composition is one of several single movement works I have written with the idea of creating short meaningful pieces which by their intensity and rich inner diversity give the illusion of much longer works.
Whilst Nocturnal Fantasia is essentially an hectic and unrelenting fast brilliant piece it however begins with a dramatic and grandiose slow opening. Following its intense start we alternate afterwards between short breezy and lyrical moments and impassioned and frenzy passages. The piece culminates and ends with the opening theme returning at double its initial speed on the piano and then quadruple that speed on the violin.
