composition
Duo concertant : for oboe and piano / Nimrod Borenstein
Description:
The Duo concertant was written for the oboist Sanja Romic. Both lyrical and virtuosic, the piece is one of several single movement compositions I have written with the idea of creating short meaningful pieces which by their intensity and inner diversity give the illusion of much longer works.
The Duo concertant is full of contrasts and contains some of the new rhythms I have developed in my recent music whose complexity is there to express different emotions. The piece has moments of peace and melancholy, episodes of magical otherworldly serenity but it is also full of intensely dramatic or highly rhythmical manic danse-like passages.
The title expresses my desire to write a composition where the piano and the oboe are of equal importance, a dialogue between two soloists.
