Fammi Mi-Fa : for organ / Kees Arntzen
Description:
Fammi Mi-Fa is loosely based on the canon ‘Mi-Fa est tota Musica’ from the ‘Leuke Spreuken’ (Merry Maxims) collection. The piece has been added as an organ canon in a three-voiced version. The starting point of the composition is the half tone, or rather the juxtaposition of the half and the whole tone which has been so fundamental to our tonal system. The whole tone row, the chromatic scale (also manifested as a twelve tone row) and the two hexachords with b and b-flat respectively (b molle and b durum) form the composition’s building blocks. The piece unfolds freely into a number of variations of mostly sixteen bars, to be fittingly registrated by the performer. A few suggestions are included as a guideline.
