...valse oubliée... : for three-octave wire-strung harp or harp / Ross James Carey
Description:
...valse oubliée... refers in its title to the series of Liszt’s four piano pieces with the same name. In translation ‘forgotten waltz’ ...valse oubliée... explores memory and the way music can jog both individual and collective memories. In this case, the waltz-like fragments heard in the work create a mood of wistful longing. Given that the wire-strung harp is unable to be re-tuned during performance, the piece is written in an unequally spaced scale (G-Ab-BC#-D-Eb-F) that in its unique construction enables various tonalities to be explored in the course of the work.
