Description:
'La Maddalena' is a famous poem by Giovanni Battista Andreini, published in 1612. It contains 118 pages and is an epic tale about the life and legend of Magdalen, dedicated to Maria Maddalena, Archduchess of Austria and grand Duchess of Tuscany. Some of the 350 8-line verses have been used for compositions into a small oratorio which was published in 1617 by Bartolomeo Magni in Florence.
The title of this work was in translation: ‘Music by some excellent musicians composed for La Maddalena, the sacred representation by Giovanni Battista Andreini of Florence.’
Cees Wagemakers, 2015
