Description:
My previous work for a saxophone quartet, "Rocking Birds", is a work in which the saxophones are used for the things they are best at, namely rock and jazz-influenced music. At least, that is what I thought. After having heard more concerts and recordings of the Amstel Saxophone Quartet, I realised that the saxophone also has an exquisite soft and lyrical side. In "L'espoir", I wanted to use the entire dynamic range of the saxophone. - MARIJN SIMONS
