Description:
I composed my "String Quartet no. 2" between 1996 and 1998. Six years later Stefan Metz commissioned me to compose another string quartet for the Orlando Festival 2005. My Second String Quartet has a few winks towards some great works from the classical repertoire, like Ludwig van Beethoven's Fifth and Ninth Symphonies. The Third has some indirect quotes from three masterworks from the 20th-century orchestral repertoire. These are Aaron Copland's Third Symphony, Alban Berg's Violin Concerto and James MacMillan's "The Confession of Isobel Gowdie". - MARIJN SIMONS
