Kage : for recorder & CD (version for alto in F), 2000 / Roderik de Man
Description:
Program note (English): "Kage" is the Japanese word for "shadow" or "reflection" and refers to the interaction between the live performance and the electronic tape part of the piece. At certain points the performer imitates or "shadows" the electronic part as it were, at other times the instrumental part becomes electronically enlarged. Shakuhachi sounds, exclamations and instruments from the Japanese Nô theatre formed part of the material which was used to create the cd part. At several points the performer may either choose to follow the score exactly or improvise on the provided material, thus making the duration variable between 8 minutes in the shortest version or 10' with the improvisation included. - RODERIK DE MAN
