Auxochromes : for piano and CD, 2001 / Roderik de Man
Description:
Program note (English): Auxochrome means, according to the Encyclopaedia Britanica: - a group of atoms and electrons forming part of an organic molecule and modifying the absorbtion of light by an adjacent chromophore so as to intensify and after the colour of the substance; - a combination of an auxochrome with a chromophore creates an electron system that absorbs a greater amount of light than the chromophore alone, and the light is of a longer wavelenght. As a result, the colour is more intense and has a deeper shade. The title refers to the role of the tape part (on CD) in respect to the live performance, whereby the electronic part extends and enhances the instrumental sounds. Both parts should merge into one instrument. - RODERIK DE MAN
