Description:
Program note (English): The name Madrigal was chosen because of the fact that (a) - as was usual in the case of Dante, Petrach and Boccaccio - the madrigal is often of a serious, meditative character and (b) an experiment was made with 'tone paintings', as found in the 16th century madrigals (Gesualso, Monteverdi). Musical forms, or composition techniques, from the periods mentioned above were not applied. The first Madrigal consists of a theme which is followed by four variations and a coda. The second is a series of alternations of long chords, broadly arched melodic lines and fiercely lacerating parts in fast tempo. - WILL EISMA
