Andrzej Kwiecinski was born on 11th June 1984 in Warsaw, Poland.

Education: Andrzej studied composition with Sławomir Czarnecki (1999-2005) at the Jozef Elsner State Secondary Music School in Warsaw. He studied musicology at the History Department of the Warsaw University (2003-2004) and composition at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague with Richard Ayers, Diderik Hakma-Wagenaar, Martijn Padding, Yannis Kyriakides and Louis Andriessen (2005-2011).

Besides, Kwiecinski participated in master classes taught by Rozalie Hirs (open music software,2005-2006), Tristan Murail (composition, 2006), Luca Francesconi (composition, 2012-2013), Willem Bruls (libretto writing, 2012), as well as Manfred Trojahn and Esa-Pekka Salonen (opera creation, 2013).

Compositions / Professional Experience: Andrzej Kwieciński has been commissioned to write music for prestigious institutions and ensembles as: Nonstrom Ensemble (2004), Friends of the “Warsaw Autumn” Foundation, works financed by the Ernst von Siemens Stiftung (2005), Deutschlandfunk, Cologne (2008) and NSKA (2011).
In 2012 Andrzej Kwieciński was a composer-in-residence at Łódź Philharmonic (for a project of the Institute of Music and Dance). His residence programme included the premiere (on 13th April 2012) of Sinfonia: Luci nella notte IV, composed as part of this project.

His work ‘Canzon de’baci’ (2012) was a turning point in his creative work: “My intention is to create music that inherits modernist avant-garde idioms built on a repertoire of gestures performing analogous functions to the musical gestures of the Baroque era. My music has to be baroque, not an imitation of it.”

His music has been presented at many festivals at home and abroad.

Awards: Andrzej Kwieciński is a finalist and winner of many prestigious competitions, e.g. the 9th Tokyo International Competition for Chamber Music Composition (2004), the “Creative Valley” competition of the Polish state broadcaster TVP (2009, 1st prize), “Young Masters XXI” Competition for Composers (2010, 1st prize), Henriëtte Bosmans Prize (2011) and Gaudeamus Prize (2012, finalist).

In 2005 he received the Polish Minister of Culture Award, in 2006 the “Young Poland” scholarship of the Ministry of Culture, in 2007-2009 the Huygens Scholarship, in 2010 the Witold Lutosławski scholarship, and in 2011-2012 Composer-in-residence at the Łódź Philharmonic.”

In 2014, at the 61st International Rostrum of Composers his piece "Canzon de 'baci" won the first place in the category for composers under 30 years of age, the recommendation in the general category and a special award (Guy Huot bursary for young composers”) of the UNESCO International Music Council and Radio France.
