Description:
Program Note (English):
Possession is the sequel to Memory Drums, a piece I previously wrote for live electronics and the group LOOS. In Possession, the combination of live electronics and LOOS is expanded with a second ensemble: ASKO.
What does the title have to do with the music? It mainly refers to the moments in the piece where the instrumental tones are taken over (possessed) by the live electronics. This creates a situation in which there is a transition between the instrumental sound and the electronic sound that detaches itself and, after such a transition, continues to resonate, rattle on, or hammer through.
Although Possession has been used as a title before (including in the film by Żuławski), I chose it anyway because it is a strong word and describes a heightened state of alertness or awareness.
