Description:
Program note (English): The basic material in part one consits fast, of forte figures for the right hand; some of the last tones freeze into piano chords and then continue as a kind of vertical echo of the horizontal processes. Just as a shadow reflects an object in an immaterial way, this chord is the almost immaterial result of the preceding powerful melodic motion.
Part two is an impression of the way in which in oriental rugs the underlying warp (continuity) is interwoven by a varying decorative figure. The central movement was inspired by the hand-weaving technique of beating the texture from time to time with a small comb, to solidify it.

Other associations are selfexplanatory, particularly the one in part four: 'Winter night' . The coda of part five recapitulates the basic material from the first and third movements, demonstrating a certain relationship between these three movements, whereas part two and four are much more self-contained. - JOEP STRAESSER
