Description:
Program note (English): This piece was a way for me to get in touch with a part of my musical background I hadn't done too much with uptill then. In the '70's among my favorite music were things like David Bowie, Yes, King, Crimson and the further adventures of Robert Fripp, the Who, Gentle Giant, Mahavishnu Orchestra, and bits of Frank Zappa (mainly Joe's Garage through later much more followed). This plus a standard issue ration of rock & roll for someone my age. 1986 found me at the Donaueschingen Festival for New Music with others from the Royal Dutch Conservatory of Music (with which I had just parted company with the preceding year), listening to the Kronos quartet playing their famous arrangement of Jimi Hendrikx's Purple Haze. The rest of the music I heard there didn't do too much for me, but Purple Haze certainly made a few things fall into place. - PETER KANN
