Melos hidiston : for voice, tenor recorder, viola, cello, double bass and piano, 1991 / Calliope Tsoupaki
Description:
Program note (English): Melos hidiston, as the title implies, is a piece based on two fragments from the Song of Songs, a love poem included in the Old Testament ascribed to Solomon. I use the text as it is in the first Greek translation of the O: the Greek letter for the numer 70. The title consits of the two words: melos that is a general word for melody, and hidiston, an adjective that means sweetest. So the literal translation of the title is melody sweetest. According to that the text is mostly set on melismatic melodies that are as well the most used musical element in the piece. - CALLIOPE TSOUPAKI
