Description:
Program note (English): The Chorale Fanfare was commissioned by the Dutch 'Jeunesses Musicales' for their tenth birthday celebrations, and was written for the brass and percussion sections of the National Youth Orchestra. The actual request was for 'a fanfare.' The composer chose the combination of chorale and fanfare because he felt that the occasion should have a note of the serious about it in addition to the jubilation, for youth and music take each other seriously. The short piece begins with the fanfare episode followed by a stately middle section, the chorale. The work ends with a synthesis of the fanfare and chorale above a resolute marching rhythm. - JAAP GERAEDTS
