Description:
Program note (English): The parts of the Suite are based on various dance forms. The first part (Comodo) functions as prelude. The second part (Andante) is a dialogue with a capricious development. The third movement (Vivace) has a dance like character, with great dynamic contrasts. Part four (Poco allegretto) has an A-B-A-form: a friendly 6/8 theme is interrupted by violent sounds, after which peace returns only with difficulty. The last movement is capricious, in changing meters, with an abrupt ending. The composition is based on the great, traditional works for solo violin that have been created through the ages, by Telemann, Bach and Reger, etc. The idiom of course is modern. Valuable advice on violin technique and phrasing the composer received from Isidor Lateiner, who premiered this composition in 1982 and to whom it is dedicated. - JOCHEM SLOTHOUWER & ANNETTE DE KLERK
