Description:
Program note (English): (Première: 13-12-1992 - Vredenburg, Utrecht - Radio Kamerorkest under the direction of Ed Spanjaard). - The departure point of Putti lies the first half-measures of Vespro della Beate Vergine van Claudio Monteverdi; the rising motives play an important role, both small and large, but the also the dotted, dancing character, the repetitive motif (viol da brazzo et trombone), the duet as a given, enthusiastic energy and eventually also the static harmony. The term putto, plural putti, is used for the naked winged little boys so often represented in classical impressions. They symbolize the spirits, as in love, when they are then called cupids, and provide a playful touch. In the early Renaissance they were made both in their original version and in the form of angels. - BART DE KEMP
