Description:
Program note (English): (First performance: 17-6-2000 - Concertgebouw, Amsterdam - Radio Philharmonic Orchestra Hans Vonk, conducting). The idea for The Heavens arose during a trip in New Zealand, where I worked on the English translation of my book The Tone Clock with Jenny McLeod. The work describes a complete cycle of the sun as I experienced it on the beach of Ohiwa. I wrote a complete report in a letter to NRC-Handelsblad on November 3, 1989. - PETER SCHAT
