Movements : for orchestra, (1981) / Tristan Keuris
Description:
Program note (English): (Première: 24-10-1981 - The Hague - Concertgebouworkest, Bernard Haitink, conducting) - Movements consists of four parts, four 'movements' for orchestra. Four parts don't make a symphony. The work has perhaps the outlines but not the contents of a symphony (.......). I try to allow the orchestra to sound in its most 'natural' way. Usage of may short rests create light and space which allows you to hear everything clearly. Therefore no long brass chords that quiets the orchestra in greyness. Short accents, which allow the other voices to remain heard, is a sort of type of valve in which I use (.......) Stravinsky has been an example for me in many respects. But as far as instrumentation goes, the nineteenth century has much to offer: Berlioz, Mahler. - TRISTAN KEURIS
