Description:
Program note (English): The title of the work indicates its design: 1 melody x 1 melody. An old telling-off song is the basis variation-theme: One is one, one is God alone, one is God alone, and that's what we believe. This song is starting-point for seven variations and a fugue. In the courses of each variation another melody appears, as a counter-melody (it is always a Dutch folksong or nursary rhyme). The counter-melody determines the feature or mood of each variation. The counter-melodies are given to different instruments; this originates from the didactical purpose of the composition (at youth concerts children may recognize the melodies and the instruments playing them). - JAAP GERAEDTS
