Description:
Program note (English): It consists of modern adaptations of four Netherlands Folksongs, the first of which is a so-called 'Friese Plof' (Frisian Bounce), a dance in quadruple time with dotted figures, regularly interrupted by the two typical heavy accents. The second is a Dutch Country-Dance, also in quadruple time, more uniform in motion and typified by groups of three heavy accents each. The 'Brabant Air' is an intermezzo. The wistful melody has the character of a siciliano. The last dance - The Guelders Polka - is the well-known air of the 'Driekusman' (Harry-man). Its adaptation is more detailed than that of the preceding dances. The main part is followed by a trio, first in the trombones, later high in the violins, then combined, with the melody in the clarinet. After the recapitulation of the main part a counterpoint adaptation of all the data together follows in the coda. - HENK BADINGS
