Canzone : per orchestra, 1971 / Hendrik Andriessen
Description:
Program note (English): The ' Canzon da sonar' or ' Canzone' is as instrumental piece in the 16th century, the development of that specific vocal music, the much older motet. Gradually this expands with the notion at the usage of the word of the motet, in 'Ricerare', 'Madrigale', 'Capriccio' and among others 'Sonata'. This development reinforced and raised the orchestral independence. It is the simple, solemn and festive nature of this old Italian music which captured my attention at the conception of this short piece .- HENDRIK ANDRIESSEN
