Description:
Program note (English): This piece is the consequence of an experience I had during a United States concert tour with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Through the application of demisemiquaver notes I have tried to model the piece in an impressionistic way. The main theme, exposed in the first measure in the marimba, dominates the whole work. A continuous rhythmic counterpoint is supplied by the congas, and the woodblocks accentuate the irregular timings. The restfulness and the general impressionistic atmosphere are suggested by the small gong. There has to be a perfect dynamic balance between all the instruments, of which no one should dominate the others. - KOOS TERPSTRA
