Cassi : for clarinet in Bb, violin and piano / Wilma Pistorius

Program note:
'Cassi' is a “case study” of creating a woman, and seeing how she responds to different sensations, situations, and pressures. This imaginary woman is called 'Cassi', and the music is her body and mind.
The piece unfolds as a series of doors and dreams and poems, each with its own colours, suggestions, and frictions.
It is inspired by something I read in Clarissa Pinkola Estés' "Women who run with the wolves", a book about empowering oneself as a woman through myths, and about the power of stories. The particular part that inspired this piece is about the therapeutic power sexual laughter, and humorous dirty stories told by one woman to another. When we laugh, we shed a bit of the pressure exerted by the world, and we are more free.
The name 'Cassi' is a reference to Casanova, the 18th-century adventurer; an ode and a wink to women as sexual beings.
