Description:
This short work has its origins in a sound experiment that consisted of a few long-sustained chords on the piano. The somewhat alienating nature of it brought me to the effect that moonlight can have on things that seem very normal during the day, but suffused by the moon change into something that is no longer fully understandable. More or less at the same time, I found the word Moonlit somewhere, an adjective that I liked and seemed to be the right designation for my experiment. Then more and less famous compositions passed by in which the moon plays an important role. It is therefore no coincidence that the chord sequence with which the piece begins - like Debussy's Clair de Lune - has a descending character. Pierrot Lunaire - the masterful song cycle about a moonsick clown - also occupied me from the start; the seven-tone motif with which Arnold Schönberg begins his cycle emerges at the end of Moonlit as a vague memory.
