Spells & Spam is a book for all singers who wish to expand their repertoire and knowledge with the art of improvisation. It contains 10 pieces - in no particular order - which can be sung by any singer. Each piece is accompanied by a number of tips on how to improvise using just the written notes. All that is required to use this book is the skill to sing the compositions; you don’t need any prior knowledge or experience with improvisation. Naturally you also need the willingness to invest time in learning how to improvise; just like any other musical skill, improvisation needs training. The music and tips in this book aim to make this training both easy and fun, and ultimately help you to start hearing music beyond the written notes. Which is how all improvisation begins.
