Triptych: The Letter of Vilma Grunwald : for mezzo-soprano, solo cello, string quartet and piano / Marion von Tilzer
Author(s):
Tilzer, Marion von
(Composer)
Description:
Marion von Tilzer wrote eight compositions for ensemble that have been recorded on her new album INTO ETERNITY – Music between Heaven and Earth. All compositions are based on the farewell letter of Vilma Grunwald she wrote to her husband moments before her death in Auschwitz. 'Into Eternity’ is a story of unimaginable sadness, yet it speaks to us of the human capacity for love, it speaks of courage, trust, and confidence as told by a woman facing her death in the Holocaust. In the letter to her husband, Vilma shines a light on the very core of what it means to accept circumstance without losing the belief in life's beauty, hope in its goodness, and trusting wholeheartedly that love carries us through and beyond the end (Sharon Levinson).
'Into Eternity' is part of the series: 'Meetings with Remarkable Women - music inspired by women's lives'.
