Gazing into the Infinite : for string quartet / Spiros Mazis
Description:
Gazing into the Infinite was written during my PhD studies at the University of York, UK, in 2007-08. I am exploring the harmonic series and the relations of the intervals among their partials in a way that I name multi-harmonic (multi-spectral) modes.
The multi-harmonic (multi-spectral) modes take shape if we combine different harmonic series. If we bind two, three, or more harmonic series together, then new shaping of sounds takes place vertically and horizontally. This shaping of sounds can be used harmonically and melodically.
The work was selected, after a Call for Scores competition, by the
members of the Kreutzer Quartet, and part of it was played on May 9th, 2008, at a Composers Workshop at the University of York. The whole piece was played in this recording by the NeoQuartet.
