Pep It Up : Fantasy for soprano, percussion, piano and string quintet / Isidora Žebeljan
Description:
Pep it up ‘is music which represents the state of limited consciousness belonging to a fictional humanoid being, an android. In this state, the being is left to a bout of remembrance. It is overwhelmed by chaotic experiences, without a human rhythm.’ (A comment by Isidora Žebeljan on the occasion of its first performance.) In this composition, the full force concerning the musical richness of the composer’s imagination gained its prominence for the first time. Along with the almost impressionistically airy melody of the voice and the aliquot dispersal of sounds in the string section, the striking particularity of this composition is manifested in the exceptionally balanced and mutually complementary complex rhythmical patterns of the piano and percussion, which create a surprising and thrilling culmination.
