Open Mind : for piano / Robert Nasveld
Description:
This less-than-three-minute-long subtle piece for piano has affinity with several of my previous compositions, which also have a certain openness, transparency, and playfulness. A colleague described the score of Open mind as “almost Scarlatti-like.” That did not surprise me, because there is indeed a certain similarity with the eighteenth-century rococo style that championed simplicity, lightness and elegance.
The music may seem straightforward at first, but because of the syncopation and meter changes it is not easy to play. The specific use of the middle pedal creates an echo-like effect.
